A READER'S OPINION

The Rake's Irish Lady is a story filled with beautiful passion, emotion, and history. This is an unusual tale set during the Georgian era of a half-Irish widow, Bridget O'Shaughnessy, who had a child out of wedlock, and Colin Warren, a rake who is not quite what he seems. In order to avoid marriage to a man who threatens to take the child away, Bridget seeks out the girl's true father, desperate to save her future.

Bridget behaves more like a modern woman, but she's strong and interesting, while Colin is everything I find charming in a historical hero . . . mostly. He doesn't make things easy for Bridget and at times behaves rather badly, but redeems himself in the end. Martin is one of those "villains" who isn't likeable but earns some sympathy by the end of the book. Sylvie is a precocious child who I sometimes wanted to send to her room and other times found amusing. The Rake's Irish Lady is the first book I've read by Barbara Monajem and I found it delightful and cleverly written.
